Recommendations
- For Microsoft Windows, Internet Explorer 7.0 is the primary browser.
- For Macintosh OS X the primary browser is Safari 1.2 and higher on Mac OS 10.3.4 (Panther) and greater.
- Ensure that your Date/Time settings reflect the actual geographical time zone where you are located and that the time is correct and that your computer is patched for Daylight Savings Time.
- Important note for e-campus users on Mac.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 (IE7) is the latest version of Microsoft's Internet web browser.

How do I check encryption support in Internet Explorer 7?
- Click on Help or the >> on the right end of the toolbar or do Alt-H to reveal the Help Menu. Then, choose About Internet Explorer as shown below.
- You should see a screen like the one below. Look for Cipher Strength to check your encryption.

Download Safari (current version)

(Safari 1.2 and higher recommended for JMU Mac Users for OS 10.3.4 and greater -- Panther and above)
Information Technology recommends upgrading the Macintosh operating system to the version shown on JMU's Recommended Software list. This may require budgeting for a newer Macintosh computer.
- Ensure your Mac is patched for Daylight Savings Time by clicking the Apple in the menu bar and choose Software Update. If you use an older Mac, please follow this link.
- Empty Cache in Safari
- Enable JavaScript in Safari
- Turn off pop-up blocking settings in Safari

- Select the Safari menu and choose Preferences (or use Command comma).
- Select the Security Pane.
- Select the Always radio button under Accept Cookies.
- Close the Preferences pane.
While the Firefox browser works without changing this setting, it is not supported by JMU IT for use on Macintosh. The recommendation is to change the setting as described above.

- JMU Information Technology offers limited support for Windows. JMU IT does NOT support Firefox for Macintosh.

- NoScript Firefox Add-on (for greater security)

It allows JavaScript, Java and other executable content to run only from trusted domains of your choice, e.g. your home-banking web site, and guards the "trust boundaries" against cross-site scripting attacks (XSS).
Such a preemptive approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known and even unknown!) with no loss of functionality…
