Internet Explorer 8.0

Download Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 (for Windows Computers)

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 (IE8) is the latest version of Microsoft's Internet web browser. Information Technology is still recommending Internet Explorer 7 as the browser for use with Windows until testing is complete with IE8 and campus-wide applications.

IE8 Compatibility Testing on JMU Applications:

• Certified on e-campus and J-Ess
• Allowed with eVA
  • Multiple Tabs with IE8 and eVA

  1. Click on Help or the >> on the right end of the toolbar or do Alt-H to reveal the Help Menu. Then, choose About Internet Explorer as shown below.
     
  2. You should see a screen like the one below. Look for Cipher Strength to check your encryption.

JMU Information Technology offers support for Firefox 3.x for both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

  1. When you navigate to a secure site (https://), double-click on the lock in the lower right-hand section of the screen as shown.
     
  2. You should see a screen like the one below. Look on the lower half of the screen to check your encryption.

  It allows JavaScript, Java and other executable content to run only from trusted domains of your choice, e.g. your home-banking web site, and guards the "trust boundaries" against cross-site scripting attacks (XSS).
  
  Such a preemptive approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known and even unknown!) with no loss of functionality…
